Total People is a Centre of Vocational Excellence

Luke Abberley, who is 18, has been working as a Youth Link Worker at Connexions for the last four months. He had already worked in the role on a voluntary basis for 2 years and really enjoys his job; “As a Youth Link Worker I get to consult with young people to get views and opinions of what is going on in the area”.
Luke wasn’t sure what to do when he left school, and his local Connexions office suggested that he try e2e. “At first it was easy”. Says Luke. “But then when all my friends started to go off to placements and college, I realised that I had to stop messing around and get on with it. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am now without Total People. It feels like the staff really care and I owe a lot to them”.
Luke now divides his time between working at Connexions and attending College. “Total People helped with writing CV’s, letters and a DVD project, all of which helped me onto my Media course and get my job” he continues.
Luke enjoys his busy schedule. “I make time for things,” he says. “ I still call in to see the staff at Total People for a chat and advice. I would say to other young people - don’t let anything stop you – Total People can help. They gave me the key - I just used it.
