Michael French

Michael French, who is 17, has been working at Alma Products since September 2005. Michael left school after completing his GCSEs and decided to try and get an apprenticeship place. He worked hard to achieve this, but unfortunately two employers let him down and he was left wondering what to do.

Michaels’ brothers had already been involved with e2e and suggested that he try the same route. “I fitted in straight away,” says Michael, “everyone was very helpful and I quickly made friends. I really enjoyed many parts of the programme, but particularly the activities such as the Rope Challenge at Reaseheath College”.

Total People found an opportunity at Alma Products for Michael, and he started working there on a placement. “It is a great company, my colleagues and manager are very supportive and I really enjoy working here”. Michael is now employed on a permanent basis by Alma Products. He attends college one day per week to learn the theory behind engineering, and spends the rest of the week putting this knowledge into practice.

“I would definitely recommend Total People”. Says Michael. “If it wasn’t for them I’m not sure what I’d be doing. I’d tell other young people not to give up – even if they’ve had disappointments it’s worth carrying on – this is for the rest of your life”.

As for the future, Michael would like to be a fully qualified, full-time engineer at Alma Products.
