Additional Courses - A1 Assessor

A1 - Assessor

Donna Delves, Senior Stylist and Educational Coordinator at Jason Lea Hairdressers in Chester has just completed the A1 qualification with Total People.

It has taken Donna six months to complete her qualification. Having been involved with training for some time, Donna felt that completing the unit would formalise her status within the company and provide her with the skills to competently assess and guide her colleagues.

“When I returned to work after having my daughter, it was on a part time basis.” Says Donna. “I felt as though I had lost my identity. Completing the unit not only restored my confidence but also changed other people’s perceptions of me. I became far more respected and was offered promotion into the role that I now deliver.” Donna Delves, senior Stylist and Educational Coordinator

Once the decision had been made for Donna to move into a more educational role, Jason Lea contacted Total People Limited, who helped facilitate the transition that Donna made from pure stylist to qualified assessor.

“My Total People Training Adviser has been fantastic.” says Donna, “Completing the unit can be quite intensive and does require self-discipline. I had regular support meetings with my adviser, which really helped me. The training sessions at Total People have also been great, I felt really looked after.”

Jason Lea is now intending to open its own Training School. Without Donna’s A1 award this expansion would have been unlikely. “I feel that I can competently assess students and have a clear understanding of the standards and NVQ units.” Says Donna. “This enables me to help my colleagues express themselves and encourages them to complete their own qualifications. The benefits of this approach are clear; we were extremely successful at the recent Hairdressing Awards in London.”

Donna credits her new-found happiness and the continued development of the salon to the undertaking and completion of the A1 qualification. “I’ve got a new lease of life,” she says, “and the salon has also felt the benefit. We are establishing a new artistic team and becoming even more respected within the industry.”

What’s it all about?
