There are four levels of achievement within the Management portfolio:

Level 2 NVQ in Team Leading

Who should take the Level 2 NVQ in Team Leading?

This programme has been designed for people who lead a team and are responsible for the team’s performance.

Candidates normally progress to this award by means of their organisational experience, role and responsibilities. This qualification is often taken by team leaders whose primary qualifications are not in management but who have moved into a first line management role.

What will you learn from this programme?

The programme concentrates on the practical application of the theory and principles of team leading and thus provides an excellent foundation for continuing development of the team leader.

This programme will enable you to:

  • Organise and develop yourself and your team
  • Effectively use resources and information
  • Develop, maintain and improve relationships and team performance
  • Identify and resolve customer service issues

Level 3 NVQ in Management

Who should take the Level 3 NVQ in Management?

This programme is intended for first line managers who are able to demonstrate competence at the appropriate level in key areas that include managing activities, resources, people and information. This qualification is relevant to people who have:

  • Tightly defines areas of management responsibility
  • Some opportunity for taking decisions and managing budgets
  • Responsibility for achieving specific results by using resources effectively
  • Responsibility for the allocation of work to team members, colleagues or contractors

Candidates normally progress to this award by means of their organisational experience, role and responsibilities. This qualification is often taken by managers whose primary qualifications are not in management but who have moved into a management role.

What will you learn from this programme?

This programme will enable you to:

  • Contribute to the effective use of resources in maintaining quality standards
  • Contribute to the selection and development of personnel, and the creation of productive working relationships
  • Handle information effectively

Level 4 NVQ in Management

Who should take the Level 4 NVQ in Management?

This qualification is intended for middle managers who are able to demonstrate competence at the appropriate level in key areas that include managing activities, resources, people and information. This qualification is relevant to people who are responsible for:

  • Allocating work to others
  • Achieving results by using resources effectively
  • Carrying out policy in a defined area of authority
  • Controlling limited financial budgets
  • Contributing to broader activities such as change programmes and recruitment

It is expected that you will already be at Level 3 S/NVQ in Management, or equivalent standard, and that you will be working at the appropriate level to commence this programme.

What will you learn from this programme?

This programme will enable you to:

  • Obtain optimum performance from operational systems under your control
  • Improve the cost effectiveness of the systems in your area
  • Develop the skills necessary to stimulate people at work to effective levels of performance
  • Identify and use information for the enhancement of both personal and organisational effectiveness

Level 5 NVQ in Operational Management

Who should take the Level 5 S/NVQ in Operational Management?

This programme is intended for the senior manager who is able to demonstrate competence at the appropriate level in key areas that include managing activities, resources, people and information. This qualification is relevant to people who:

  • Have operational responsibility for substantial programmes and resources
  • Have a broad span of control
  • Are responsible for identifying and implementing change and quality improvements
  • Negotiate budgets and contracts
  • Lead high level meetings

Candidates normally prepare for this award by means of an operational management qualification, e.g. the Level 4 Diploma in Management or the Level 4 S/NVQ in Management, or via their organisational experience, role and responsibilities.

What will you learn from this programme?

This programme will enable you to:

  • Identify reliable performance measures and use them
  • Demonstrate competence and confidence in financial decision-making and control
  • Select, recruit, train and develop effective, well-motivate
