Apprenticeships For Your Staff

An Apprenticeship is a programme of learning and qualifications completed in the workplace, which gives people the skills, knowledge and competence they need to progress in their chosen career or industry. They can be undertaken in a wide range of occupational areas. An Apprenticeship leads to Level 2 qualifications, whilst Advanced Apprenticeships lead to Level 3. Some learners embark onto an apprenticeship and on completion progress onto an advanced apprenticeship, whilst others go directly onto the advanced route.

What makes up an Apprenticeship?

An Apprenticeship is made up of the following qualifications:

NVQs (National Vocational Qualifications) are awards that prove learners are able to work to a set industry standard. Units are achieved by demonstrating competence at work. NVQs are gained in the workplace; they are assessed by qualified Total People Training Advisers, who will observe the learner’s work and discuss with them their knowledge and understanding of why they work in a particular way. Learners collect evidence, which involves putting together a portfolio of work that proves they can do their job.

Key Skills work on the “soft skills” required for work, such as Communication, Problem Solving, Numeracy and Working with Others.

Technical Certificates provide and test the underpinning knowledge required for the industry or job role.

Employment Rights and Responsibilities are not formally assessed, but ensure that an apprentice knows the key rights and responsibilities for their job role.

Duration

The duration of the programme depends on the occupational area and the individual. As an estimate, Apprenticeships usually take 12 months whilst Advanced Apprenticeships last around 19 months.

It is important to remember that apprentices add value to your business from day one. Because the training is delivered both in and out of the workplace, we are able to ensure that sound theoretical knowledge is gained alongside practical skills – both of which are essential for your business. Apprentices are developed to meet YOUR needs, and because they learn while they work, their knowledge is current and relevant.
