Total People is a Centre of Vocational Excellence

Total People, in partnership with the University of Chester offer funded higher level work based learning programmes by way of the Universities 'Employer Engagement Project'.
Programmes allow employers and employees the opportunity to create training programmes specifically for their business and individual development needs, without experiencing the operational and personal problems associated with regular College / University attendance.
Because the learning is designed to be completed in the work place, a greater proportion of evidence can be achieved by way of previous qualifications achieved, learning experiences, work based projects.
How is the learning designed and how will it benefit ?
Learning programmes are built into modules of learning which are either taken off the shelf or specifically designed , multiple modules create accredited recognised qualifications. All finished modules form part of the University of Chester's WBIS (Work Based Integrative Studies Framework) suite of professional modules. The main objectives of the learning framework are :-
- Promote personal and professional development and improve performance within the workplace.
- Delivery of programmes of study, giving learners the opportunity to negotiate, plan their study routes.
- Facilitate reflective practice and develop knowledge and understanding in a work based context.
- Develop the skills, knowledge and capabilities of study related to the work-based environment.
- Make use of the learning resources available within and outside of the workplace.
How is the learning categorised?
Different types of learning methods exist, depending on which best suits businesses and individuals.
- Taught Modules: Supported by optional workshop/s where learners are given the opportunity to meet with other learners. Learners are also given access to a wide range of online resources in order to study at a distance supported by a tutor.
- Negotiating and Experiential Learning Module : These modules offer the opportunity to build specific individual learning carried out on a ‘work-based’ basis. This may typically be made up of work-based projects and job specific training.
- Gaining Academic Credit for Prior Certified Learning : Learners can obtain credit for previous Higher Level studies taken with the previous five years.
- Gaining academic credit for Prior Experiential Learning : Credits can be gained for work based activities.
What qualifications can be achieved?
Qualifications are created as a series of learning modules, each module carrying 20 credits. Learners can progress their learning from a single module right through to a full honours degree. Accredited qualifications can be identified as;
- Professional Certificate (60 Credits)
- Certificate in Higher Education (120 Credits)
- Foundation Degree (240 Credits)
Additional study will result in a full honours degree.
