Application Forms
Some companies may ask you to complete one of their application forms. You may have to call the company and request one to be posted to you or you may be able to download one from their Website.
Here are some tips on how to fill them in:
- Read through the form before you start and make some notes if necessary.
- Before you start, gather together all your education, work experience and personal details.
- Write out your answers in rough first and then complete the form when you are definitely happy with what you have put.
- Complete the form with a black pen (unless told otherwise), this tends to be the easiest to read and photocopy.
- Keep the form clean and make sure that your writing is easy to read.
- Check your spelling and use a dictionary or thesaurus if necessary.
- Complete all sections of the form. If you think that a question does not apply to you, don’t just leave it blank, write ‘not applicable’.
- Remember to complete the additional information box if there is one. You could put any special qualifications or reasons why you think you are suited to the job.
- If you are putting the names of referees, make sure that you ask their permission first.
- Check the form when you have finished, making sure that you have signed and dated it if necessary.
- Take a photocopy of the completed form before you send it off.
- Make sure that you send it in good time and address it to the right person. If you don’t know the person’s name, address it to the Human Resource Department.
So, after completing all the necessary forms, you get asked to come for an interview, well done! However, what exactly does that mean? What will you have to do?
