About the apprenticeship

The main role of the Mechanical/Electrical Fitter is to build and wire these robotic systems to the required standard and production schedule.

The role includes performing inspection and testing to confirm compliance with electrical standards.

Main duties/tasks:

  • Work to Company procedures, instructions, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams and specifications (the robotic system has to comply with EU Directives)
  • Inspection of parts on receipt from suppliers
  • Identification of parts
  • Allocation of parts to store locations
  • De-burring of parts and removal of protective film in preparation for anodising and powder coating
  • Drilling and cutting to length of certain parts
  • Assembly and set up of precision robotic mechanisms
  • Manufacture of wiring looms with small crimped terminals
  • Soldering of jumpers and small connectors Integrate the wiring into the robotic system
  • Safe use of specialist electrical testing equipment to perform defined electrical tests
  • Assist with commissioning and testing
  • Affix labels for CE marking on completion of defined tests
  • Compilation of assembly and test records
  • Cleaning and preparation for packing
  • Packing of systems with custom designed packaging to prevent damage during transit
  • Keeping the workshop clean and tidy
  • Controlling the storage and use of special tooling e.g. crimp tools
  • Controlling the storage and use of electrical inspection and measurement equipment and monitoring calibration status
  • Monitoring stock levels and requesting additional items to be purchased to avoid shortages

Occasional duties/tasks:

  • General maintenance around the Company
  • Fault finding and diagnostics of equipment

It is expected that following a successful apprenticeship, a fulltime position will be made available.
