About the apprenticeship

To work with groups of students, under the supervision of the teacher, to enable them to achieve expected outcomes. 

  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students and report any safeguarding or child protection concerns through the school’s reporting procedures. To contribute to the safety and wellbeing of colleagues
  • Meet with identified students individually to discuss their progress
  • Work with the SENCo to contribute to the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle
  • Assist in the supervision of students in emergency situations, such as fire drills
  • Establish good relationships with students, acting as a model by presenting a positive personal image and responding appropriately to individual needs
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students
  • Encourage students to act independently as appropriate
  • Support and assist form tutors during registration and de-registration
  • Provide curricular clerical/admin support, eg photocopying, making lists etc. 
  • Under the direction of the teacher, prepare the classroom for lessons and clear afterwards, as appropriate
  • Contribute to student record keeping and updating records, information and data, producing reports as required
  • Assist in the development and implementation of behaviour management strategies
  • Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers and report on information from parents/carers to the teacher
  • Monitor students’ responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement/progress as directed
  • Provide assistance with exam concessions
  • Assist in the development and implementation of differentiation of work for SEN students, using ICT where appropriate. To support the use of ICT in learning activities and developing students’ competence and independence in its use
  • Undertake duties as required, including before and after school, at break and lunch times
  • Supervise students’ entry into assemblies and attend these acts of worship with the students when appropriate
  • Be aware of and comply with child protection procedures, health and safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting any concerns to the relevant member of staff
  • Assist in maintaining high standards of health and safety at all times
  • Maintain good relationships with colleagues and work together as a team
  • Assist in the supervision of classroom and outdoor activities
  • Assist with the supervision of discreet groups of students for short periods when the teacher is not present
  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school
  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
  • Attend relevant meetings
  • Participate in training, including relevant learning strategies and other learning activities, and performance management where required
  • Undertake other duties as required in line with the grade and responsibilities of the post
