Get Your Dream Job

The thought of a job interview can be scary – the first and most important thing to remember though is that your potential employer REALLY wants you to be right for the job. The interview isn’t designed to catch you out, it’s designed for you to showcase your brilliance, and with the right preparation and a small amount of research, you’ll be able to approach any interview in a calm, relaxed way and massively improve your chances of landing your dream job.

Below are the top 5 tips and techniques to ace your job interview:

1) Research

Spend time researching your potential employer before the interview.  Knowing a few key facts about your potential employer will greatly assist you during the interview; it will show that you’re interested in the role, promote a pro-active approach and will help you answer their questions.

2) Common Questions

There are certain questions that regularly come up during any job interview, if you can prepare for these and already have a few answers ready you won’t become stuck and you’ll feel at ease during the interview. Some frequent interview questions include: Why do you want to work here? What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? Can you give an example of how you dealt with a problem? Why should we hire you? Do you have any questions for me?

3) Prepare ahead

What you wear will matter - in any workplace you should carefully consider clothing and this is especially important during a job interview.  Even though some workplaces might have a casual dress code, it is important to make a professional first impression during an interview.  You can’t go wrong with typical smart office wear. Get everything ready the night before.  Also, check your route to the interview making sure you know where you’re going. You need to be on time!  Your interviewer will also use your CV to gain information about you and to ask questions, so make sure you keep your CV up-to-date, click here to read our handy tips on how to make your CV standout.

4) Smile

Even if you feel nervous, greeting your interviewers with a welcoming smile is a fantastic ice-breaker. It will also make you seem friendly, relaxed and confident.

5) Ask Questions

Every interviewer, no matter what job or sector, will end the interview “Have you got any questions for us?”  Never say you have nothing to ask, it will make you appear disinterested in the role.  Prepare some company specific questions before the interview, or pick up on topics during the interview that you would like to expand on.

Lastly, enjoy it – every situation provides an opportunity to learn and that’s a great thing!
