Below is an overview of the Electrical Apprenticeship, outlining the qualifications you will achieve and the units and vocational areas you will cover throughout your training as well as other important information such as course duration and funding.

Advanced Apprenticeship

Qualifications
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)
  • Key Skills Level 2 Application of Number
  • Key Skills Level 2 Communication
  • Key Skills Level 2 IT
Units covered Units are:

  • Diagnosing and correcting electrical faults
  • Inspecting, testing and commisioning electrotechnical systems
  • Planning, preparing and installing wiring systems
  • Electrotechnical Occupational Competence (AM2 Test)

Learners must achieve certification in the related knowledge Unit before Assessment on each Performance Unit.

Entry requirements Employed in a job related role as a Supervised Apprentice or Trainee for at least 30 hours/week.Grades A-C in Maths, English and ICT or equivalent.

Learners are required to undergo a colour vision check.

Who is it for? Suitable for Apprentice Electricians; Adult Trainees – involved in electrical installation work; including domestic, industrial and commercial buildings and environmental services.

Aged 19 and over

Duration Total 4 years including three years at College on a day release basis.
Start date Usually September each year but Learners may start the Diploma at any time by agreement between Total People Ltd and Employer.
Assessment method Site Assessments include direct observation, witness testimonies, walk and take, site diary and professional discussion. College Assessments include short written papers and on-line multiple choice question modules.

Further progression Successful completion of the Diploma programme may lead to other vocational qualification such as City & Guilds 2391 or City & Guilds 2400.
