For any business, building for the future involves strategic planning and ongoing investment especially when it comes to ensuring sustainability and growth.

A key factor in achieving this is by developing a workforce that is competent particularly in the electrical industry where on-going training and development is a legislative requirement.

Telford based contractor, Jones and Hampton Limited are no different and are using Total People’s apprenticeship programme to aid their business growth.

Growing a business through apprenticeships

Founded in 1995, Jones and Hampton has grown into a thriving business by gaining a reputation across the Shropshire region for their quality and reliability. They work with a wide range of clients in both the public and private sector and employ a large team of experienced skilled tradespeople and support staff.

With the future of the business in mind, they approached Total People to provide support in taking on an apprentice electrician, at arguably the optimum time for advertising too. They successfully recruited Michael Woolley who is currently working towards City and Guilds Level 3 in Electrical Installation, which Jones and Hampton received full funding for.

The benefits of employing an apprentice

“Having an apprentice brings many benefits to the company,” said Financial Manager, Tom Robinson-Jones. “Getting the right person was vital and Michael came in with exactly the right attitude. We have been able to train him the Jones and Hampton way and he quickly gained knowledge and understanding through practical based work but also by receiving quality off-the-job training at Total People where he has been thoroughly supported by tutors who are very much ‘in touch’ with the industry.”

"Michael is now able to carry out a wide range of jobs and work independently and has become a real asset to the company.”

Jones and Hampton are open to the possibility of taking on another apprentice in the near future.
