We are so proud to celebrate our apprentice colleagues across the LTE group – some inspirational stories right here:

Daniel Madden

I arrived at the LTE Group in October 2016 as an apprentice. I wanted to become an apprentice to gain my AAT qualification whilst in a work environment.

Also having the work-based experience has allowed me to have a greater understanding of what I am studying in college.

I have been supported all the way by having monthly meetings with both the training advisor from Total People and my Income Team Leader. This has kept me on track and has been good to share any concerns along the way.

After 5 months I was given the opportunity to apply for a role as a finance assistant within the income team. I am glad to say that I was successful which has further enhanced my career as I am now undertaking more responsible duties which once again has helped me achieve my Level 2 and has helped me continue with Level 3.

I started as an apprentice at the college in August 2015 studying my level 2 AAT, I have since started my level 3 AAT and am currently awaiting the result of my final exam. I started in the Finance office as part of the Accounts Receivable team and after working at the college for roughly 10 months I was offered a permanent position on the Accounts Payable team. During my time working in the department, I have also been able to help test and implement our new finance system.

I would definitely recommend doing an apprenticeship to anyone who is considering doing so as it is great to learn on the job. I feel through doing an apprenticeship I have been offered so many opportunities that I wouldn’t have got if I would have gone to university to study.

I arrived at the LTE Group in April 2017 as an apprentice following my previous employment as a Purchase Ledger Clerk.

I felt that becoming an apprentice would be a perfect opportunity for me to progress further - gaining valuable work-based experienced, whilst studying towards an AAT qualification which in turn will help me achieve my long-term career goal

Monthly meetings are held with myself, my training advisor from Total People and my Income Team Leader. This has kept me on track, offering valuable support and guidance throughout my apprenticeship.

I am currently studying towards AAT Level 3. I hope to continue at LTE Group to complete my Level 4 and have the opportunity to become an Income/Credit Control Officer within the organisation when the opportunity arises.

Debbie Sanderson

After high school, I was intending to study A levels at College, although I didn’t know what I wanted to do as a career so chose subjects I enjoyed - but I wasn’t particularly looking forward to carrying on in full-time education. Before starting College in September I saw an advert for an apprenticeship (or YTS as they were then known) at the Co-operative Group in Manchester, in the finance department. The opportunity to get a paid job, continue my education and gain work experience was too good to miss, so I applied and was successful.

I worked at the Co-operative Group for four years, during which time I achieved a BTEC in Business and Finance and my AAT qualification; workwise I progressed from the Purchase Ledger team to work with a project team implementing a new finance system, which gave me a much broader experience of a finance department. I also commenced my professional accountancy examinations with CIMA and qualified when I was 23.

Since then I have worked for 4 companies in 3 different industry sectors in an accounting capacity and progressed from apprentice to assistant accountant and supervisor, manager then director. The solid grounding in work experience that doing an apprenticeship provided me with has, I feel, given me a really good understanding of accountancy and working practices that have benefited me throughout my career.
