Apprentice Spotlight: Oliwia’s Journey of Growth and Determination
Every apprentice journey looks different. Some take off with confidence straight away, while others take a little longer to find their feet. What matters most is the progress along the way, and that is exactly what makes Oliwia Swaitowska such a deserving Apprentice of the Month.
Working towards her Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification at Dandelions Day Nursery, Oliwia has shown what real perseverance looks like. Her journey has not always been easy, but her growth has been nothing short of inspiring.
Finding her feet
Starting a new role in a completely new sector can feel overwhelming, and that was the reality for Oliwia at the beginning of her apprenticeship. Alongside working full time, she was also adjusting to the demands of independent study and navigating changes in her workplace following a change in nursery ownership.
Like many apprentices, she faced early setbacks, including a ‘not yet competent’ outcome in her first practical assessment. At that point, her future on the programme was uncertain.
But what sets Oliwia apart is what happened next.
Turning challenges into progress
Rather than stepping back, Oliwia leaned in.
With support from her learning coach, she began to open up about how she learns best and what she needed to succeed. Together, they adapted her approach, helping her build confidence, improve her study habits and develop stronger practical skills.
She also showed real determination in overcoming challenges outside of work. As the primary carer for her younger brother, her time was limited and her home study environment was not ideal. By taking small but meaningful steps, including creating a dedicated workspace, she was able to focus more effectively and make consistent progress.
The results speak for themselves.
Growing in confidence
Oliwia’s development has been clear across every aspect of her apprenticeship. Her knowledge has improved, her practical skills have strengthened, and her confidence has grown significantly.
In the nursery, she is now building strong relationships with both children and colleagues, becoming a valued member of the team. Her ability to take on feedback, reflect on it and actively improve has played a huge part in her success.
She has even taken steps to improve her financial wellbeing, learning how to budget and save, and has already put aside over £1,000 towards her future goals.
Ready for what’s next
As Oliwia prepares for her End Point Assessment, she is in a completely different place from where she started. She is focused, motivated and continuing to look for ways to develop.
Her journey is a brilliant example of what can happen when apprentices are supported to grow, not just in their role, but as individuals.
Oliwia’s story is not just about overcoming challenges. It is about building confidence, developing resilience and showing what is possible with the right support and mindset.
Congratulations, Oliwia. This recognition is very well deserved.
