learner winning an award

Alex Muirhead, a Human Resources learner from SCB (Special Needs) Ltd, has been recognised with a Total People Personal Development Achievement Award for his exceptional work exploring British Values and PREVENT.

Alex was selected from among many learners after submitting a thoughtful reflection that showcased both his strong understanding of safeguarding and his commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals.

His submission focused on PREVENT and the important role it plays within wider safeguarding responsibilities. By exploring the topic in depth, Alex highlighted how safeguarding awareness can help create safer learning and working environments while protecting those most at risk.

Demonstrating a commitment to safeguarding

Drawing on information shared through a safeguarding newsletter, Alex considered some of the challenges faced by trainees, including those with learning disabilities, autism and mental health conditions. He recognised how these individuals may be more vulnerable to manipulation, online grooming and extremist influences, highlighting the importance of identifying and responding to safeguarding concerns.

Through his reflection, Alex showed that PREVENT forms part of a much wider approach to safeguarding. He explored how greater awareness can help practitioners recognise potential concerns, respond appropriately and provide the right support for vulnerable learners.

The maturity and compassion Alex demonstrated throughout his submission really stood out. His work showed a clear understanding of the difference that safeguarding knowledge can make to the wellbeing and safety of others.

Celebrating outstanding personal development

At Total People, we are incredibly proud to recognise learners who go above and beyond in their development and use what they have learned to support those around them.

The Personal Development Achievement Award celebrates learners who show a real commitment to developing their knowledge, skills and behaviours. Alex’s submission stood out for its depth of understanding, practical relevance and clear focus on learner wellbeing.

By engaging so thoughtfully with this important topic, Alex demonstrated the value of continuous learning and the positive impact that individuals can have when they apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.

Speaking about receiving the award, Alex said:

“This is really lovely to receive. Thank you so much. I’m definitely very proud.”

Everyone at Total People would like to congratulate Alex on this thoroughly deserved achievement. His commitment to personal development, safeguarding and supporting vulnerable learners is something he should be incredibly proud of.
