When a couple decided to follow a common path in creating a safe place for coffee lovers and share their world wide experiences, Big Mugs was born! We are looking to recruit a customer focused apprentice at our shop in Crewe. At Big Mugs we believe that great coffee is an affordable luxury, but also an everyday need, this is how we treat it.
About the apprenticeship
Opening Tasks
- Unlocking and setting up the shop
- Turning on machines (espresso machine, grinders, ovens, etc.)
- Checking inventory (coffee beans, milk, syrups, pastries, etc.)
- Preparing baked goods or stocking display cases
- Setting up the cash register and POS system
- Cleaning and sanitizing counters, tables, and equipment
- Customer service & order fulfilment
- Greeting customers and taking orders
- Preparing and serving coffee, tea, and specialty drinks
- Handling dietary requests (oat milk, sugar-free syrups, etc.) Upselling pastries, sandwiches, or merch
- Managing the flow of orders to avoid delays
- Handling transactions and providing excellent customer service
Cleaning & maintenance throughout the day
- Wiping down tables and counters
- Cleaning milk frothers and espresso machines after every use
- Emptying trash and recycling bins
- Restocking cups, napkins, and ingredients
- Monitoring and adjusting music, lighting, and ambiance
Administrative & inventory management
- Tracking sales and adjusting stock accordingly
- Ordering beans, dairy, syrups, and other essentials
- Managing employee schedules and breaks
- Handling social media updates or promotions (if applicable)
- Responding to customer reviews and feedback
Closing Tasks
- Cleaning machines (backflushing espresso machine, descaling equipment, etc.)
- Restocking items for the next day
- Deep-cleaning floors, counters, and the toilet
- Counting cash and closing out the register
- Locking up and setting alarms
Apprenticeship qualification and training
Customer Service Practitioner - Level 2 Standard.
Career progression
Opportunity to further develop your skills and progress in a customer service environment. Progress on to the Customer Service Specialist Level 3.
