Tell us a little bit more about your organisation

We are a Business Consultancy specialising in utilities and telecoms working with all industry sectors across the UK. The business has a strong family feel with great team spirit. Since 1998, the owner and founder, Flemming Christensen and his management team have steadily grown the company to around 25 employees servicing approximately 3,000 business sites.

Tell us more about your 50in5 apprenticeship

We offer a Level 2 and 3 Business Administration Diploma. It is a 12 month apprenticeship leading to a full time role as Business Consultant as well as the option of progressing to a Level 4 Diploma in Business Administration. We are always on the lookout for promising new apprentices and therefore we tend to recruit throughout the whole year. The role is varied including cost analysis, documentation organisation, supplier and client liaison.

This is our 10th year of offering apprenticeships and we have used Total People for each of these 10 years. The majority of our workforce have been through the apprenticeship scheme and three of the original apprentices are now in management roles within the company. We spend a significant amount of time in training our staff and we see apprenticeships as an ideal way of progressing our employees. From the individual’s point of view, it offers an ideal opportunity to get their foot in the door with a business.

Talk us through the process – how easy was it to recruit your new apprentice through Total People?

The recruitment process is straight forward. We are very proactive ourselves with recruitment attending various careers fairs throughout the year and once we have the candidate on board following an interview, we then appoint Total People as our training provider. Total People also send us several applicants throughout the year.

Why did you choose Total People?

We are contacted by many training providers but the main strength of Total People is the coursework support. Total People send a tutor out to us every 4-6 weeks so that our staff can go through the relevant work with them in the office. There is minimal disruption to the working day for our employees.

What do you expect to be the benefits of recruiting through an apprenticeship?

Apprenticeship roles provide us with the opportunity to invest time into the training of our employees. We have a strong management team who all buy into the apprenticeship scheme as we have seen the benefits over the past 10 years. We can shape and develop our employees from scratch and offer them a clear pathway to grow within the company.

Would you recommend Total People to other employers? If so, why?

Yes, it’s a competitive market but from our experience there are no better training providers out there and our apprentices always speak highly of them (see blogs on Total People website).
