New2You Celebrate Success With Total People

Total People accommodate for all learners, see in the article how New2You are an example of this.

New2You is a local second hand shop and a true centre for the community based in Tyldesley town centre. They also offer many different voluntary placements, for people who wish to learn new skills and meet new people, these placements are also NVQ certified and are provided by Total People.

The shop offers many roles from creating eye catching displays and serving customers to stock control.

Alison, the founder and owner of New2You, created the business in conjunction with the well-established charity, Embrace.

Embrace Wigan & Leigh provide advocacy and support for families who have a person with a disability in their life as well as individuals who themselves have disabilities.

The learners have worked hard to achieve their qualifications; they have all had their own obstacles to overcome with the help of their Total People Training Advisor, Steve Tomkinson.

One of the learners, Gemma McGraw, was working towards a level 2 Customer Service and now she has passed she will be moving onto a Retail level 2 NVQ. She has worked and progressed at New2You in a two year period and is now continuing to grow and prosper at the Embrace partnered shop.

When we asked Steve how he felt about the changes in the learners since they had started the qualification he replied, “If I didn’t see the smiles on their faces I wouldn’t still be here”. Not only have they had academic support but many of the learners struggle with confidence as they have never had a job or worked in a long time, this programme has introduced them to new skills and opportunities and has benefitted them by giving them a qualification, and contributed to their personal development too.

Congratulations to the learners, Gemma McGraw, Catherine Brown, Paula Evans, Patricia Higgins and the ongoing support of the founder and owner Alison Cottriall.
