Total People apprentices enjoyed an evening of celebration and congratulations when they attended this year’s Student Excellence Awards on Thursday 13 June.

A total of six super apprentices from Total People joined students from The Manchester College and UCEN Manchester at The Midland Hotel to celebrate amazing achievements from learners across the three businesses.

On the night, Tia Cavanagh, Early Years Educator (EYE) at The Firs Day Nursery, took home the Total People Advanced Apprentice of the Year award.

Tia said: “It’s amazing to have won this, I’ve never won anything before, so this is very special. I’ve been through a lot in my life and missed out on a lot, so it’s nice to know my hard work has paid off and been recognised.

Being part of Total People has been great, I’ve been with them since I left school and they’ve been really supportive. I’m really enjoying what I’m doing now in childcare, so I want to continue doing that and see what happens next.

Fellow finalist Dylan Pritchard, who gained a HNC Diploma in Construction and The Built Environment as part of the M Futures construction programme, said: “The apprenticeship has been great overall. I didn’t know what I wanted to do in construction but the M Futures programme offered six different areas of construction to explore such as architecture and project management, and now I know I want a career in quantity surveying.

“I’m currently looking at a job opportunity with one of the company’s I had work experience with Faithful and Gould. Being on the apprenticeship has definitely helped me to get a foot in the door. And in the future, I might be in a position to give someone like me a shot.”

Winning the Total People Intermediate Apprenticeship of the Year was Laura Wileman, Commis Chef Apprentice at The Chester Grosvenor hotel.

Helen Meakin, Key Account Manager who collected the award on behalf of Laura, who was unable to attend, said: “I’m delighted to be here at the Student Excellence Awards. It’s great for people to be recognised for their achievements and be recognised as part of the wider LTE Group, not just Total People.”
