On Friday 29th March 2019, Total People learner Michael Hitchenson, a level 3 apprentice bricklayer working with Total People’s construction partner in Winsford; Build Skill Plus, won the Guild of Bricklayers Senior North West Regional Brickwork final.

The regional event, held at Preston College, invited entrants from 35 North West colleges and three training centres, to put forward their best bricklayer for the competition.

Michael’s win in the senior category means that he now qualifies for the National Final, to be held at Liverpool College on 20th June 2019.

Michael’s employer, Carl Stafford, from Carl Stafford Builders in Northwich said, “We are very pleased with the result. Our company obviously focuses on quality brickwork and this has been reflected in the result. We fully support Michael in the next phase of this exciting competition”.

The National Final will include nine Regional Champions from England in addition to the winners from Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

Build Skills Plus Centre Manager Mark Burgess continues;

Both myself and Michael’s tutor Daniel Marshall were impressed by the pride he takes with his brickwork and attention to detail produced on the day. We are of course fully committed to supporting Michael for the National Final in June

Congratulations Michael! A fantastic achievement and we look forward working with you in preparation for the National Final and hopefully continued success.
