Volunteering at Mid-Cheshire Foodbank

Volunteers at the Mid-Cheshire food bank warenhouse

As part of our Pathways to Apprenticeship Enrichment programme we recently took four learners to volunteer in the Mid-Cheshire food bank warehouse.

Through this experience they learnt about the challenges faced by foodbank users in the area and how the support is provided by the foodbank purely through the generosity of volunteers and donations from the public.

The learners helped with sorting and labelling food that had been collected at a recent Supermarket collection and then collating the food to be sent to the distribution centres. They worked with the regular foodbank volunteers who were keen to explain how anybody, from any background, can end up needing the help of the foodbank, as well as how they can seek out that support if they find themselves in need.

The learners were particularly impressed with how the whole operation runs with only volunteers, as they did not realise so many people would give up so much time and effort to help others.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of such a worthwhile cause.

Well done and thank you from everyone at Total People.
