How do Total People safeguard their learners?

Total People have a safeguarding strategy with the 6R’s framework relevant to learners.

As a learner you can be assured that staff have been trained in recognising and responding to safeguarding issues. We recognise that talking to someone about a concern that you have might not always be easy. We try and make it as easy as we can.

You can record the fact that you want to talk to someone on the safeguarding website by completing a simple form above.

You can talk to your training advisor, who will have been trained in how to respond and record safeguarding matters,  and can raise a concern on your behalf.

You can email the safeguarding team; safeguarding@totalpeople.co.uk or contact one of the designated safeguarding leads whose contact number is on the posters displayed in all classrooms.

We are committed to the governments PREVENT strategy. As a learner you will see that we embed British values in all our courses. We aim to create safe spaces for learners to discuss sensitive issues, and have robust support mechanisms in place for those who might be vulnerable to radicalisation. Staff are trained in awareness of the dangers of radicalisation and extremism and of the signs to look for, and the safeguarding team have strong links with agencies who can provide support.

We ask you to sign a learner agreement regarding “appropriate use” policies in place for internet use and procedures in place to monitor and restrict access to inappropriate websites. We also have strong anti bullying and harassment policies covering behaviour both on and off our premises.

Recruit

Total People recruit all staff safely.

Staff that have contact with learners will have a DBS check before starting work. There are rigorous checks with previous employers to ensure those people who are responsible for the teaching and learner of those learners on programme with Total People. All the checks carried out are kept in a single central record which can be accessed by human resources staff.

At the time of recruitment all staff have, as part of their job description, their safeguarding responsibilities written within their contract, and carry out induction training, of which, safeguard training is a part. All new staff meet the safeguarding team and are updated regularly and supported by an experienced safeguarding team.
