Professional Accounting Apprenticeship

If you’re looking to build a career in accounting, this apprenticeship is designed to give you the practical skills and knowledge you need to succeed. As an Accounting Technician, you’ll play a key role in handling financial information.

Throughout this programme, you'll receive expert training to help you master accounting principles and essential IT systems. Once the programme is complete, you will have the skills and confidence to deliver accurate financial information, collaborate effectively, and make a real impact in the workplace.

Topics, units and assessments

As part of the apprenticeship, you will learn about:

  • Personal Tax
  • Credit and Debit Management 
  • Drafting and Interpreting Financial Statements 
  • Applied Accounting 
  • Internal Accounting Systems and Controls 

As part of the End Point Assessment (EPA), you will be expected to complete:

  • Synoptic assessment: covering the knowledge and skills as indicated in the mapping document
  • Portfolio and reflective discussion: Exhibits evidence produced in the workplace to demonstrate that you have met the knowledge, skills and behaviours specified in the standard. The portfolio of evidence must meet all learning outcomes, as set out in the assessment plan, and will support and inform the assessment of the reflective discussion.

How you’ll learn

Off the job training is a critical and important element within the apprenticeship. Off the job training must deliver new skills and knowledge that are directly relevant to the apprenticeship standard and can include:

  • Teaching of theory via blended delivery methods
  • Practical training
  • Work shadowing
  • Supported learning and time spent writing any assignments/questions
  • Assistant Accountant

    Assistant Accountants support finance teams by preparing reports, analysing costs, and assisting with budgeting and forecasting. They help track financial performance and ensure compliance and provide insights.

  • Accounts Supervisor

    Accounts Supervisors oversee the processing of invoices, payments, and employee expense claims. They ensure all transactions are recorded accurately and on time, manage supplier relationships, and handle any payment issues. 

  • Payroll Manager

    Payroll Managers oversee the processing of employee wages, ensuring payments are accurate and made on time. They manage payroll systems, handle tax and benefit deductions, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. 

  • Senior Financial Officer

    Senior Financial Officers oversee financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, budgeting, and strategic planning. They manage cash flow, investments, and financial risks, providing insights to senior management. 

  • Develop Skilled Professionals

    Apprentices gain hands-on experience in bookkeeping, financial reporting, and tax regulations while ensuring compliance with industry standards. By teaching these skills, it helps businesses maintain accurate financial records, as well as contributing to overall business performance.

  • Improve Efficiency in Processes

    With structured training in accounting software and financial analysis, apprentices help streamline processes such as payroll, invoicing, and budgeting and reducing errors. By streamlining these processes, senior members of staff can prioritise other tasks.

    Well-trained apprentices can provide valuable financial insights, helping businesses make informed decisions on budgeting, cost management, and forecasting, ultimately supporting the businesses expansion and growth.
