Learning and Development Practitioner Apprenticeship
This apprenticeship prepares you to work in a Learning & Development (L&D) Support role within a L&D department. It is designed to equip you with a better understanding of the role of L&D in organisations, support good practice within employment relations, support good practice in performance, reward management and support change.
Upon completion of this apprenticeship, you will have the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to move into a L&D role, and will also be eligible to progress onto the Level 5 Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) course.


Topics, units and assessments
As part of the apprenticeship you will learn about:
- Business Culture and Change in Context
- Principles of Analytics
- Core Behaviours for People Professionals
- Essentials of People Practice.
Before entering the gateway, you must have been successful in completing all knowledge, skills, behaviours and duties, linked to the standard. The following must also be completed:
- Level 2 Functional Skills English and maths or equivalent
- Learning Journal: an ongoing appraisal of their own learning journey.
How you’ll learn
Apprentices must complete a minimum of 6 hours per week of off-the-job training or the equivalent over the practical learning duration (20% of capped 30 working hours).
Off-the-job training must deliver new skills and knowledge that are directly relevant to the apprenticeship standard and can include:
- Teaching of theory via blended delivery methods
- Practical training
- Work shadowing
- Supported learning and time spent writing any assignments/questions.

Assessor
An Assessor's role is to evaluate and measure a learner's progress. They assess the learner’s performance against set criteria, often through observations, assignments and practical tasks.

Coach
A Coach plays a key role in a business. They support employees, managers, and leaders in achieving their development goals through structured coaching, feedback, and tailored strategies.

Tutor
A Tutor provides individualised instruction to help learners understand specific subjects or skills. They offer explanations, clarify concepts and assist with assignments or coursework.

Skills Coach
A Skills Coach manages group learning sessions, guiding participants through structured content and activities to develop hard and soft skills and create an engaging environment within the workplace.

Develop Strong and Effective Leaders
Apprenticeships in management equip employees with key leadership skills, including team supervision, strategic planning, and decision-making, preparing them for leadership roles in the future.
