Overview

Tyrers Coaches (Chorley Depot) has an exciting opportunity for ambitious, driven individuals to join the company's engineering department as an Apprentice, working towards completing a Level 3 Bus and Coach Engineering Technician Apprenticeship in association with Total People Ltd and Manchester College. Carrying out a range of engineering work on buses and coaches for bus and coach operators.

About the apprenticeship

  • This excellent opportunity is aimed at learners who are interested in forging a career within the bus and coach sector, in particular within a thriving and well-established family-owned operation with more than 50 years of industry experience

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Conducting 6-week inspections of vehicles to specified standards 
  • Diagnosing faults using the latest diagnostic equipment
  • Completing effective mechanical repairs
  • Completing all relevant documentation to a high standard 
  • Preparation of vehicles for MOT
  • Completing accurate records and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Removing and replacing faulty/damaged parts
  • Repair of body and panel components
  • Fitting and servicing parts
  • Safe operation of specialist tools and testing/lifting equipment
  • Assisting with repair/recovery of defective vehicles off-site
  • Other related activities as operationally required 

Apprenticeship qualification and training

  • Bus and Coach Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Level 3 This will be delivered through a mix of face-to-face learning, remote reviews, online assessments, self-study, practical skills training and one-to-one coaching facilitated at our training centre in Wythenshawe (off-the-job) - through block release sessions

Career progression

Upon satisfactory completion of the Apprenticeship Programme, a full-time permanent contract could be possible, along with the potential of a long and rewarding career with one of the North-West's leading award-winning independent operators. Future opportunities might include specialism or progression to supervisory or managerial roles within the department. Our own Engineering Director began his journey with us as an apprentice
