About the apprenticeship

A Medical Receptionist is the first point of contact for patients when they either come to surgery or, on many occasions, when they telephone. It is the role of the receptionist to help patients obtain the best service from the surgery and to ensure the smooth running of the surgeries for the Doctors and other clinical members of the team. * Reception duties during surgeries and clinics * Answering telephone and face to face enquiries * Booking, cancelling and amending appointments * Retrieving and filing medical records * Scanning hospital letters onto the computer * Taking requests for home visits as per Practice Protocol * Taking and passing messages to Doctors and other Primary Health Care Team members as per the Practice Protocol * Completing administrative forms * Inputting and retrieving information from the computer * Issuing repeat prescriptions * Booking ambulances * Liaison with outside agencies * Chaperoning patients * Preparing consultation rooms for surgeries * Testing Urine, when no Doctor or Nurse is available * Assisting patients on the nebuliser, after receiving the necessary training * Follow COVID-19 policies and procedures * Any other tasks which may become necessary to improve patient care as a result of changes in the NHS, or as a result of the introduction of new technology.SkillsAdministrative skills, Attention to detail, Communication skills, Customer care skills, Initiative, IT skills, Non judgemental, Organisation skills, Patience, Team workingOutcome DescriptionPossible full-time position upon completion of the apprenticeship.Things To ConsiderConfidentiality The unauthorised use of disclosure of patients and / or other personal information is regarded as gross misconduct and will be subject to the practice's disciplinary procedure. Unauthorised disclosure of computerised information could result in prosecution for civil damages under the Data Protection Act 1984. You will work across 2 sites - WA2 0HD and WA2 7QZ.

Apprenticeship qualification and training

You will work towards a Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship delivered by Total People. You'll have a dedicated Tutor and will also be supported internally by your manager. During this apprenticeship, you will develop a portfolio and have regular reviews. Apprenticeship work will be completed during working hours. In-house training on processes, policies and procedures.

Career progression

Possible full-time position upon completion of the apprenticeship.

Customer Service Specialist Apprenticeship would be a progression route after this apprenticeship.
