About the Higher Apprenticeship

Total People in partnership with Manchester City Council are offering the opportunity to work on some of the most high profile construction projects in the region, reshaping the city’s skyline and working with a range of leading employers in the sector.

The construction projects include:

Manchester Life, setting the benchmark for property development in Manchester by enabling the evolution of vibrant and inclusive residential communities. 

M Futures, led by the City Council, includes the redevelopment of Manchester Town Hall project ‘Our Town Hall’ and is strengthened by the support of key developers and specialist trade contractors. 

A real alternative to university

There are no university fees, loans or debts on an apprenticeship programme and you will earn a salary of £15,000, rising in-line with age related and performance pay structures. 

The role

You will gain a Construction and Building Services Management Level 4 NVQ and a HNC Qualification alongside valuable industry experience that will put you ahead of your peers. 
During the apprenticeship, you will get the unique opportunity to work and develop your skills whilst experiencing a number of different professional roles such as:

  • Developer
  • Designer – as an Architect or Engineer
  • Project Manager
  • Quantity Surveyor
  • Contractor’s Team
  • Specialty Local Authority
  • Consultancy 

Throughout the Apprenticeship, you will work within a wide range of areas including:

  • Brief, business case and design preparation
  • Concept and developed design
  • Planning application and consideration
  • Procurement of contractors, estimating and tendering construction start-up and frame stage
  • Construction finishing stage and handover

Future prospects

On completion of your apprenticeship you can easily earn over £20k and potentially obtain company sponsorship to complete a degree in your chosen pathway. 

Entry requirements

A Higher Apprenticeship is open to Manchester residents aged 18+, who hold a GCSE English and Maths grade C or above and a level 3 qualification or an A level in a relevant subject area.
