A Bricklaying apprentice has triumphed in a national skills competition after coming third in the new entrant bricklaying competition and gaining a bronze medal.

Callum Richards, 18 from Runcorn, impressed judges at the Construction Industry Training Board’s (CITB) annual Skill Build Competition held at Liverpool College on the 3rd May 2018.

The Regional Final invites 35 Colleges to put forward their best bricklaying student’s to compete against each other in their chosen trade.

Callum, who is an apprentice with Sean Richards, attends specialist bricklaying apprenticeship centre, Build Skill Plus in Winsford, on a day release basis where he learns skills which he then transfers on site. Build Skill Plus work collaboratively with Total People in delivering a range of bricklaying qualifications from the specialist bricklaying apprenticeship centre.

A delighted Callum said: “I was very happy to gain a top three place in my first competition. It was hard work but enjoyable."

Build Skill Plus Centre Manager, Mark Burgess, was delighted with Callum’s recognition: “Callum worked very hard to gain a place in his first competition.”

The Centre’s Curriculum Manager and Brickwork Tutor Daniel Marshall added: "We are very proud of Callum and the quality of bricklaying he produced to gain third place."

Congratulations to Callum, it is a fantastic achievement and one that he should be incredibly proud of.

This is just one example of the opportunities and personal achievements available while undertaking a Build Skill Plus and Total People course.
