Meet John

John is a Curriculum and Performance Managerat Total People with extensive experience across automotive and engineering sectors.

He holds professional certifications as a Certified Automotive Tutor (CAT), Certified Automotive Assessor (CAA), and Certified Automotive Engineer (CAE), and is a Member of the Institute of the Motor Industry (MIMI). He brings significant industry expertise and structured training experience to apprenticeship delivery.

John began his career as an apprentice mechanic in the British Army, completing a 27-year military career in engineering and operational roles. During this time, he worked across a broad range of complex systems, including motorcycles, armoured bridge layers, specialist military vehicles, and remote-controlled platforms fitted with ground-penetrating radar.

His career progression took him from the workshop floor to senior operational leadership roles, where he led personnel both on operations and in peacetime environments. Throughout his service, he consistently fulfilled responsibilities as a mentor, trainer, and leader, supporting technical competence, discipline, and professional development.

Since joining Total People in 2022, John has played a key role in the delivery and development of Automotive and Engineering apprenticeship standards. He has been instrumental in the design and implementation of a bespoke Scheme of Work aligned to an engineering apprenticeship standard, enabling learners within a manufacturing organisation to access and successfully complete an apprenticeship route that was previously unavailable to them.

His work directly supports learner progression, employer needs, and compliance with apprenticeship and quality assurance requirements.
