Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeships & Qualifications

Carpentry and Joinery Overview

If you want a varied job that makes good use of your practical skills and takes you out and about, carpentry and joinery could be perfect for you.

During the apprenticeship you’ll cover areas such as:

  • installing first fixing components (installing windows, doorframes, linings, floorboards, erecting partitions, plaster boarding and joinery tasks prior to plasterwork except structural components)
  • installing second fix components (installing kitchens, boxing in pipes, hanging doors, cutting and fitting skirting and architraves)
  • Stacking and storing resources
  • workplace safety
  • efficient working practices.

How do you get into the industry?

There are no specific grades needed to start a career in carpentry and joinery, however many employers look for people that enjoy ‘hands-on' working.

To start an apprenticeship in carpentry and joinery at either Level 2 or 3, you’ll need to have a job or a placement in the industry to gain the experience and knowledge needed in the workplace

You don’t always need academic qualifications to start training, but some employers may prefer you to have a good standard of education, such as GCSEs, as well as English and maths.
