Congratulations was the order of the day when Total People sponsored the Rising Star category at Shropshire Council’s apprenticeships awards during National Apprenticeship Week 2022 (7-13 February).

The Apprenticeship Awards ceremony was held at Shrewsbury Town FC’s stadium to celebrate the achievements of some of the council’s 224 apprentices.

Total People Key Account Manager, Jane Evison, joined over 70 council staff and training providers to present the award which was won by council datat officer, Rachael Harrison, who is undertaking a Level 4 Data Analyst Apprenticeship.

Jane, Key Account Manager, said: "It was wonderful to play a part in Shropshire Council's celebration event, and the impact of apprenticeships on individuals, teams and their customers was very clear to see in the award nomination statements.

"Rachael truly is a Rising Star and I am sure she will go on to have a great career at the Council."

Presenting the awards, Andy Begley, Shropshire Council’s chief executive, said 33 council officers completed an apprenticeship last year.

He said: “Investing in our staff is incredibly important to us. Our apprenticeship programme encourages and celebrates personal development, and we’re keen to embrace and build upon this so that we can create a happy and healthy workforce with the right skills for our future success as an organisation.”

As an apprenticeship levy-paying employer, Shropshire Council and its schools use apprenticeships as a key route of development for staff.

Our £500k in 100 days campaign is encouraging large employers who have unused apprenticeship levy funds to gift £500,000 in total in just 100 days, funds that would otherwise be returned to the Treasury.

We’re also encouraging SMEs across the region to access these funds to help create 100 opportunities for new apprenticeships, training which can help local businesses to bridge skills gaps and increase their productivity.
