Love cars and fixing things? Motor Vehicle could be perfect for you! Or you may be interested in cars, motorbikes and are good at IT in which case a career as a Parts Consultant could be an option for you.
Motor vehicle technicians repair and service a wide range of vehicles depending on what the garage specialise in, this can include cars, vans, motorbikes, lorries and coaches.
Motor vehicle parts persons, or service advisers, work with individuals, garages and dealerships to order motor vehicle parts, offering advice on spares and making deliveries.
During the Apprenticeship you will cover areas such as:

- Servicing, repairing and replacing faulty parts and maintaining records.

- Light Vehicle and Heavy Vehicle
- Motorcycle
Motor Vehicle Technicians work on all vehicle mechanics and electrics, from engines and exhaust systems to air-conditioning and security. Good motor vehicle technicians need to have strong practical skills. You’ll need to be good at problem solving and finding faults. You’ll also need to be good with people and have great customer service skills.

How do you get into the industry?
You do not always need academic qualifications to start a career in Motor Vehicle, however some employers may prefer you to have a good standard of general Education such as GCSEs, including English and Maths.
Further Progression
After completing your Apprenticeship in any of the Motor Vehicle qualifications, you will be able to progress onto further qualifications or promote to higher positions including supervisor and managerial.

Entry Requirements
In order to start a Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship at Level 1, you will not need to have any formal qualifications or be working within the industry. This is an entry level and therefore will prepare you for a full Apprenticeship.
To start an Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle at either Level 2 or 3, you need to have a job or a placement in the industry as it is a work-based qualification. You will also need GCSEs in English and Maths for the Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications.

Aged 24 and over

Pathways to Apprenticeship - Level 1
Total People will support you to experience a working environment with a local company for 2 days per week in order to give you an insight into the industry. At the end of the course you could progress onto a full Apprenticeship with Total People.
Length of the course - 9- 12 Months Approximately
Intermediate Apprenticeship - Level 2
Within the Intermediate Apprenticeship, you will gain a Level 2 Diploma in one of the following:
- Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (VRQ)
- Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (VCQ)
- Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Parts (VCQ)
Other areas of the qualification include:
- Functional Skills Maths Level 1
- Functional Skills English Level 1
- Functional Skills ICT Level 1
- Employer Rights & Responsibilities
Length of the course - 24 Months Approximately
Advanced Apprenticeship - Level 3
Within the Advanced Apprenticeship, you will gain a Level 3 Diploma in one of the following:
- Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (VCQ)
- Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (VRQ)
- Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Parts
