As of April 2024, the minimum apprenticeship wage across all apprentices is £6.40 per hour. Upon completion of the first year of the apprenticeship, the minimum wage shifts from the minimum apprenticeship wage to the minimum wage of the apprentice’s age bracket. 

In the context of adult apprentices, those over the age of 21 meet the national minimum wage, which is £11.44. As an adult apprentice, you’ll only be entitled to £11.44 after the completion of your first year, before that, your wage entitlement is £6.40.  

However, many adult apprentices find employers who are willing to pay a higher salary, including during the first year. This is because by offering higher salaries, employers can attract serious candidates who have experience, qualifications, and the maturity to take the programme seriously.
