The pioneering cancer centre explain how Total People’s expertise is helping to promote innovation at all levels.

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is the largest single site cancer centre in Europe and the first UK centre to be accredited as a comprehensive cancer centre.

Not only are they treating more than 60,000 patients a year but they are supporting the development of their workforce through Total People apprenticeships, from clinical practitioners and healthcare support workers to pharmacy technicians, car park employees and catering supervisors.

Morgan Walsh, Apprenticeship Coordinator at The Christie, said: “Apprenticeships have given us the ability to ensure new staff are supported to become valuable members of their teams and the wider Trust. These programmes have also given existing staff the opportunity to develop, gain nationally recognised qualifications and often see their roles in a new way – promoting innovation at all levels.”

The Christie has worked with Total People for many years to deliver apprenticeships, enabling colleagues across the Trust to become knowledgeable members of staff who are confident in their abilities.

Morgan said: “They gain qualifications that could help their career progression and they are also aware of the development opportunities available to them and know that their employer supports this development.”

Total People’s committed support during the recruitment process, apprenticeships expertise and individual learner support has ensured a successful ongoing relationship between the two organisations which looks set to continue.

Morgan said: “Total People are always very supportive during recruitment processes. The team are on hand to answer any questions or provide information to candidates and ensure successful applicants are on programme quickly once they start in the Trust.

“They have always been professional and supported our colleagues to complete their learning, being flexible and nurturing where required ensuring learners reach their potential.

“The individual support that Total People are able to offer learners has really set them apart. In our experience, specifically with coach Sandra Ashton, apprentices have felt safe and confident in their learning.”
